What a day for Team GB yesterday…we finally broke our duck and took home some Olympic Gold medals. The first Brits to make it to the top of the medal podium were Heather Stanning and Helen Glover who rocketed to victory in the women’s pairs rowing final.
Stanning and Glover put in an amazing performance at Eton College’s Dorney Lake and enjoyed an emphatic win over the rest of the field, pulling out in front within 500m of the start and remaining ahead for the duration of the race. The duo received uproarious support from the watching spectators and they were cheered across the finish line with what has been described as a “wall of sound.”
Team GB’s second gold medal came courtesy of a very safe pair of hands, or should that be sideburns, when good old Tour de France winner Wiggo brought home the bacon with victory in the men’s time trial in front of an ecstatic home crowd. This latest gold medal means that Bradley Wiggins is now the UK’s most successful ever Olympian with 7 games medals to his name. What a couple of weeks he’s had!
Olympic Gold is a fantastic achievement that is sadly most likely out of reach for the large majority of us. However that certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate your own achievements, whatever they may be. In fact, why not treat yourself to a Gold Award Medal with Ribbon from our Party Prizes range? You deserve it!
