There was a bit of a British pop invasion at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles last night. Fresh faced teen heart-throbs Louis, Harry, Liam, Zayn and Niall, better known as One Direction, had the night of their lives as they picked up 3 awards in front of an audience of excited fans and fellow pop stars.
The boys looked absolutely delighted with their haul of trophies for Best New Artist, Best Pop Video and Most Share-Worthy Video, beating out other notable acts including fellow Brit pop rivals The Wanted. It’s fair to say that One Direction have now most definitely succeeded in that most desirable of achievements for a British music act: breaking the States.
The lads may be young (Louis is the oldest at just 20), but they are certainly no strangers to success. The band has enjoyed phenomenal success since being formed in 2010 by pop svengali Simon Cowell whilst appearing on the X Factor, with a host of hit records and 2 platinum selling albums. Say what you like about Mr ‘high trousers” Cowell, but he certainly knows a thing or two about what it takes to make it big in the pop world.
So a big congratulations to One Direction for their VMAs coup. We certainly know first hand what devoted fans the lads have – we can barely keep up with demand for the fabulous One Direction life size cardboard cutouts in our Music Cutouts range! Never fear though, new stock is winging it’s way to us as we speak, so you’ll soon be able to get your hands on a lifesize Harry Styles cutout or Niall Horan lifesize cutout again!
