Party supplies for a birthday, anniversary or celebration?

Looking for an unusual party idea for a birthday coming up in the next two weeks? Then why not celebrate the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, by holding your very own Olympic Games theme party!

Basic decorating ideas for your Olympic Party theme:

Use a selection of paper plates in the colours (black, blue, green, red and yellow) of the Olympic rings so that your table mimics the famed rings emblem of the games. Coordinate all your decorations using the same colours, so use crepe paper streamers and balloons, plus tablecovers and napkins to create a bold contrasting room fit for your winning guests.

Winner or loser, it's the taking part that counts - but if you want to add a little competitive edge to your party games you have to make sure there are medals at the end of each game - these fun gold medals ensure everyone is a winner - to create a silver medal just wrap the medal coin in silver aluminium foil (shiny side out) and make sure the foil is really smoothed down so the contours on the medal show though. Bronze medals are a little trickier, but some sweet wrapper foils would do the trick. Alternatively give the winners of each game a balloon of the appropriate colour: gold, silver and bronze - (you'll probably have to improvise a bronze one.)

Fun Olympic party game ideas:

Any game that lots of people can easily play will do, from timeless classics such as Musical Chairs and passing the balloon between the knees to more serious Tug-of-War, but remember, this is an Olympic themed party and as such we think the games should be of a sporting nature reflecting the glory of the Olympic tradition - with this in mind we think you'll like our unique party game suggestions...

Shot Putt - take one of our plastic Balls and Chain and simply remove the chain and leg strap from the ball and you instantly have a very heavy authentic looking Shot putt that is in actual fact very light and easy to throw. Make a real display of  weighing it up as if it were heavy. Mark out a ring in your play arena to throw from and keep a tape measure handy plus some pegs with name flags on them to measure and mark where people's shot lands.

Fencing - another noble Olympic sport. To create your own tongue in cheek fencing competition, you'll need some of our flexi-foam sword cutlasses - somewhat more chunky than a traditional fencing epee, but just as much fun and not half as dangerous. Make simple bibs with a X on them for each player and then count the number of time the X is touch within a 1 minute round. Pop on a white satin face mask for effect and 'En garde!' the fence-off begins.

Hammer Throw - more athletics fun with a novel turn on the hammer throw - you can either be very literal and use our inflatable hammer for throwing - whirl it over your head and release in the right direction. Or you can use your ball and chain again, this time keeping the chain and leg strap attached - hold onto the leg strap, spin a few times and let go in the right direction again - the winner is the person who gets the item furthest.

Gymnastics - become a rhythmic gymnast with the use of this fun tinsel baton twirler and inflatable globe - give everyone a go at doing their own 1 minute routine with the baton and globe. Forward rolls and jumps in the air are a must - but can you do that as well as catching the globe and twirling the baton? No doubt many of your guests will be relieved to hear that lycra leotards are not compulsory.

Speed walking event - if you've got a big garden hold your own short distance Speed Walking event - bound to get everybody giggling, the funny exaggerated swaying motion is the only way to get ahead of your fellow competitors - remember, any running means instant disqualification! Make it harder by adding an obstacle course or making the competitors walk the invisible dog.

Shooting - test your Olympic party guests' hand-to-eye coordination and accuracy with a shooting competition - no bullets required with our great Pop Shotz gun - create your own target and give everyone 3 goes in each round to hit the bulls eye. The rubber sucker fired by this fun gun will travel up to 55ft.

There are all sorts of other games you can play using the Olympic principles of higher, further, longer, stronger: Just use your imagination.but most of all have fun and make sure everyone gets a little prize of some kind!

Start planning today and you'll be able to declare your Games party officially open during the Olympic fortnight! Want to find out more about this year's Olympic games? - visit the Athens 2004 website and the official Olympic Movement website to learn all about the Olympics.
